Soup Kitchen

Open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays

Volunteer Shifts: 

7:30am – 11:00am & 10:45am – 2:30pm

  • Cooking and cooking preparation
  • Set up/clean up
  • Serving
  • Bussing – clear table and scrape dishes
  • Dish washing
  • Putting away clean dishes and portioning desserts
  • Make coffee and supervise bread area
  • Greeting/counting
  • Divide bulk bread into smaller portions

The Soup Kitchen is operated out of the Salvation Army Church which is located at: 187 Alberni Hwy, Parksville, BC. Phone: 250-954-0707

Food Bank

Open Mondays to Fridays (Hours can vary by day)

Volunteer Shifts: 

8:30am-12:00 & 1:00pm-4:00pm

  • Greet clients
  • Sort food (including bread)
  • Stock shelves
  • Help clients shop
  • Build and deliver School Packs once a month
  • Pick up bread/grocery items from donation points:
  • Save On Foods
  • Thrifties
  • Starbucks
  • Tim Hortons
  • Quality Foods (Parksville and Qualicum)
  • Costco

Thrift Stores

Open Mondays through Saturdays

Qualicum Location:

Mon-Sat 9:30am-4:30pm

  • Stocking items on the shelves and general merchandising
  • Running the till
  • Electronics testing


Parksville Island Highway (Main Store) Location:

  • Stocking items on the shelves
  • Testing electronics
  • Minor repairs to items
  • Building/setting up displays
  • Bagging items at the till


Parksville Hirst St. Boutique Location:

Mon-Sat 9:30am-4:30pm

  • Ironing clothing items
  • Building/setting up displays


Parksville Furniture Warehouse:
1210 Industrial Way, Parksville
Monday-Sat 10:00am-4:00pm

  • Moving/sorting furniture

Special Projects

Event Coordinators
Volunteers to assist in the planning and delivery of fundraising and training events.

These are challenging roles that require strong organizational skills and the ability to respond effectively in a high-pressure setting.

Emergency Disaster Services

Emergency Feeding
Through our mobile kitchen units – provision of hot meals and beverages to disaster victims and emergency workers.

Meet and Greet
Meet and direct victims traumatized by disaster to any and all services required in an Emergency Reception Centre – beginning the process of recovery.

Emotional and Spiritual Care
Emotional support to disaster victims and EDS workers, as well as providing a chaplaincy presence among those coping with the aftermath of a disaster.

Christmas Kettle:

2. Create a username and password for yourself to access our volunteer system

3. Fill out and submit the volunteer application form and the attached policy documents required for volunteering with The Salvation Army. (Note that an email address is required to complete the application. If you do not have an email address please contact our volunteer coordinator at 250-248-8794)

4. You will get a confirmation email that we have received your application and we will get in touch with you to schedule a volunteer intake appointment with our volunteer coordinator.

All volunteers are carefully screened and trained. To volunteer, you will be required to:

  1. complete a Volunteer Registration Form,
  2. sign required policy documents,
  3. complete a RCMP Criminal Record Check (no charge),
  4. attend an intake interview with our volunteer coordinator, and
  5. attend specific on-site training.

Current Volunteer Needs

More volunteers are needed to enable us to serve those seeking our community supports this year. We have openings in all of our ministry areas: Food Bank, Soup Kitchen, Thrift Stores, administration, maintenance, janitorial, donation pick-up drivers etc.
